Disclaimer:
Before we get in,o a huge thanks to Feelworld for sending this out for the video. Just to let you know, all opinions in this video are mine, and Feelworld has not asked me to say or showcase anything in particular.
FEELWORLD L4 Unboxing:
Let’s start by talking about what we get in the Weuded. We get a USB 3.0 connector and a power supply with various connections, including Australia, which is great. There’s also a European plugin plug-in here. The power supply will work anywhere in the world, which is great.
10.1″ Touchscreen Display
The standout feature of the Feelworld L4 video switcher is the 10.1″ touchscreen display. This bright screen is easy to see from all viewing angles—sitting here, there are no issues whatsoever with viewing angles.
PST and PGM Views
The screen features a PST, or preview window, on the left and a PGM, or program, on the right. There are five inputs, including four HDMI inputs and an SDI Input. Three outputs are included: an HDMI output for the live view or program output, an SDI output for a secondary Program output, and a USB-3 port for direct streaming to any platform.
Touchscreen Responsiveness
The touchscreen is very responsive to use, and I have no complaints about how it feels when menu diving, selecting a scene or transitioning. A dedicated menu wheel on the right allows you to cycle through screen options. It’s also a push button, and it feels and responds nicely.
StreamiCompatibility
Speaking of streaming, the L4 allows you to use it like a webcam, so any app that supports webcam connectivity will work with it. I tested it with E-CAMM Live, and it’s working great. I recorded this video using my iMac. It’ll work with Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, Zoom, WebEx, Twitch, etc.
FEELWORLD L4 input and output Resolutions
This unit supports inputs up to 4k30 via HDMI and will also do 1080p 60 via SDI or HDMI. However, this ani is an HD switcher capable of only a maximum of 1080p 60 put. The quality of the image passing through this looks very accurate, as seen in the camera’s colors and contrast, which is nice.
Does the FEELWORLD L4 record to SSD?
One limitation of the FEELWORLD L4 is that it can’t record to an SSD. This is a dedicated live streaming switcher, but if you own an encoder or want to capture via OBS on a desktop, you can do that without any issues. I think this would have been very close to the perfect switcher had it included SSD recording, but you can decide whether you need this or not.
The USB port on the side allows you to load an image from an external disk, and I’ll show you the image overlay shortly.
No Quick Switching
One of the other small things to note is that I can’t find a quick switch option for the life option. You have to use the transition bar or the cut button on the top. I hope this can be included in firmware down the track, as it would make streaming a live bandicoot easier to manage.
This switcher works a bit differently from others, like the ATEM mini, so it makes sense, but it would be great if they could add a way to either tap the screen or tan the scene buttons to switch the program output.
Phone and App Support
I should also point out that the switcher can be controlled via iOS and Android using the Feelworld Live Plus. This app allows you to control all the basics of the switcher. Here’s an example of how fast the app is and how well it works. Once you connected the switcher to ethernet, the app found it instantly, and I was good to go.
Final Thoughts
The Feelworld L4 switcher is a decent choice for anyone looking for an all-in-one streaming solution. While this unit is fairly simple and doesn’t offer advanced features like recording, it’s a solid solution for multi-camera work. I have passed feedback onto Feelworld regarding the lack of quick switching operation, which will hopefully be added in a future firmware update.
