Are New Panasonic Flagship Cameras Coming?
Camera rumor sites predict the Panasonic LUMIX S1H II release date and S1R II will be December 2024 or early 2025. These two cameras will be the new dedicated flagship cameras
Since their release in 2019, the original LUMIX S1H and S1R have not seen a direct replacement. While Pansonic released the S5II, S5IIX, and S9, the original series of cameras has not been updated.
Panasonic LUMIX S1H II Rumors
Specification rumors online predict the new S1H will film as high as 6K Open Gate up to 60p. Like the S5II line of cameras, the S1H II is predicted to have active cooling and a similar flip-out and up screen to the S1H/GH7.
Like the latest LUMIX GH7, the new S1H II is predicted to record 4K 120p using the entire (or majority) sensor. There is mixed information on the prediction of 8K recording.
The new Panasonic S1RII will replace the original S1R as Panasonic’s flagship photo-centric camera. The S1R was originally released in 2019, so it’ll be great to see a new dedicated flagship photographic camera. The GH7 also has AARI log C3 support via a paid firmware update. We expect to see the same optional upgrade on the SH1 II as it will be a camera many filmmakers will shoot with.
Tentative Specs from Mirrorless Camera Info
- Rumored specifications for the S1H II
- 24MP
- 6k 50p, 6k 60p RAW, 4k 120p non-cropped, no overheating
- 4k pixel binning
- Low-rolling shutter/Fast Readout
- Dynamic range boost realized for the first time on a full-frame camera
- Up to 4k 60p, it has a dynamic range of 17 stops (2.5 stops better than the S1H)
Knowing the specs in the recent LUMIX GH7 release, the S1H II will undoubtedly feature internal ProRes Raw Recording to a CFExpress Card or SSD Drive via USB-C. It would be great to see a second USB-C port for simultaneously charging and recording to SSD, but only time will tell.
Panasonic LUMIX S1R II Rumors
The LUMIX S1R II will replace the original LUMIX S1R. This camera will boast a higher megapixel sensor than the S1H and is better suited for professional photographers and shooters wanting higher-resolution photo files.
Rumors suggest the S1R II will feature at least a new 40-megapixel sensor utilizing the new phase-hybrid autofocus system found in the S5II range of cameras. This is all hypothetical, but several sites and videos discuss how these new cameras are in the works. These two cameras will be excellent options for those who were shooting with the original S1H or S1R and want a similar body design and ergonomics.
Again, this article is based only on online rumors. However, I am seeing more and more about the Panasonic LUMIX S1H II and S1R II online and wanted to share these updates for those interested.
